Let's Make Sioux City Great Together
Raised in Sioux City with his three siblings, Shaun Broyhill learned the value of hard work, teamwork, and perseverance. Shaun is an 6th Generation Siouxland native. He graduated from West High School in 1997 while participating in many activities, such as Cross Country, Track, Debate, Speech, and acting.
Shaun later joined the Nebraska Army National Guard, joining the 600th Transportation Unit out of Omaha, Nebraska. While in the service, Shaun learned the value of discipline, service to country, and hard work.
Shaun continued on these skills, and attended Briar Cliff University in Sioux City. Shaun graduated Magna Cum Laude, while also earning awards such as Computer Science Student of the Year and Dean's List recipient for all four years of undergraduate work. Shaun also was inducted into both the Phi Theta Kappa and Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor Societies for his hard academic work.
Shaun will be receiving his Master of Science from Iowa State University this spring in Human Computer Interaction, with a focus on Cognitive Psychology. Shaun is currently maintaining a 3.83 GPA, and has received the Alice Yvonne Fuhrmann Graduate Scholarship for academic achievements in his program.
Outside of schooling, Shaun has also established the Broyhill Family Foundation, which provides annual scholarships to local high school students looking to attend college in the Sioux City area after graduation. This program has funded thousands in scholarships to in need students in the area.
Shaun also devotes a large amount of his spare time volunteering for a variety of charitable causes, and has volunteered over 10,000 hours in the last ten years in our community. Currently he is volunteering at the Boys Club of Sioux City, where he has purchased a large number of new computer systems and educational licenses, and is teaching high risks students valuable computer and educational skills.
Shaun has also volunteered over 800 hours to St. Lukes Regional Medical Center, where he spent the majority of that time helping comfort families of patients. Other projects include serving meals at the local Gospel Mission and providing clothing and food for homeless families in the area.
Shaun is a baptized Lutheran, wants to bring family values to the district and serve as your voice on the School Board A voice that echoes your concerns. A voice that matters. A voice that cares.
I support massive reform and reduction or elimination of the Department of Education; the abolishment of any federal or state law or regulations – such as Common Core or Iowa Core –that mandates national core standards and curriculum; and reverting control of education standards back to the local level.
